Ways to save on conference registration

VAM Conference Scholarships

  • Please Note: If you have received a scholarship from VAM in the past two years, you are not eligible to apply.

Daniel H. Weiskotten Memorial Scholarship 
Provides financial assistance to archaeologists, public historians, and students who would benefit from attending the VAM annual conference. This scholarship is given to one applicant per year, and includes full conference registration as well as hotel costs for two nights. 

Applicants for this scholarship should fall into one of the following categories: 

  • A professional archaeologist employed by a museum or historic site in Virginia or the District of Columbia, and currently working with an archaeological dig or with archaeological artifacts
  • A person who is actively engaged in researching and interpreting local history for exhibits or public programs in Virginia or the District of Columbia
  • A student at a Virginia or District of Columbia school preparing to enter the field of archaeology, public history, or museum studies

VAM Professionals Scholarships 
Helps to fund registration and hotel costs for VAM members and students who would otherwise be unable to attend the annual conference. In order to assist as many qualified applicants as possible, most of these scholarships provide partial funding for conference expenses. All awards are made through a competitive process, and are based primarily on demonstrated financial need.

Applicants for this scholarship should fall into one of the following categories: 

  • A current member of VAM
  • A museum studies student
  • A new museum professional (in your first year of your first professional museum job)

Peninsula Museums Forum Scholarship
This scholarship provides financial assistance to a member of our local museum personnel working in the Virginia Peninsula who wish to attend the annual conference. The financial assistance is given to one applicant per year and includes coverage of full conference registration rates and a $250 stipend towards lodging or travel costs. This assistance does not include any of the conference events that require additional admission not included in the regular rates. VAM members and non-members are welcome to apply.

Applications from museum personnel working in the following Virginia Peninsula areas will be considered: Smithfield, Williamsburg, Yorktown, Jamestown, Gloucester, Hampton, Newport News, Fort Eustis, and Poquoson.

Student Research Session Scholarships
Three undergraduate, graduate, or emerging museum professionals will receive a full conference registration to attend VAM's 2020 Annual Conference to present new research, projects, or impressive accomplishments in their educational or work careers. Deadline: January 17, 2020. Learn more

Applicants for this scholarship should fall into one of the following categories: 

  • Undergraduate or graduate student
  • Emerging museum professional (in first three years of your career)
  • A current member of VAM (VAM offers FREE membership to fulltime students! Join here!)

Volunteer for the VAM Conference
Volunteer shifts are full

  • Signing up to volunteer is first come, first served opportunity open to members. 
  • Please note that no more than two representatives from the same organization can apply to volunteer. 
  • You must sign up for a total of 6-7 hours of volunteer shifts.
  • Once your shifts and your membership are verified, you will be emailed the volunteer registration form to complete your conference registration. The discounted volunteer rate is $75 for full conference registration.
