Ways to save on conference registration

VAM Conference Scholarships

Daniel H. Weiskotten Memorial Scholarship 
Provides financial assistance to archaeologists, public historians, and students who would benefit from attending the VAM annual conference. This scholarship is given to one applicant per year, and includes full conference registration.

Applicants for this scholarship should fall into one of the following categories: 

  • A professional archaeologist employed by a museum or historic site in Virginia or the District of Columbia, and currently working with an archaeological dig or with archaeological artifacts
  • A person who is actively engaged in researching and interpreting local history for exhibits or public programs in Virginia or the District of Columbia
  • A student at a Virginia or District of Columbia school preparing to enter the field of archaeology, public history, or museum studies

VAM Professionals Scholarships 
Helps to fund registration costs for VAM members and students who would otherwise be unable to attend the annual conference. In order to assist as many qualified applicants as possible, most of these scholarships provide partial funding for conference expenses. All awards are made through a competitive process, and are based primarily on demonstrated financial need.

Applicants for this scholarship should fall into one of the following categories: 

  • A current member of VAM
  • A museum studies student
  • A new museum professional (in your first year of your first professional museum job)

Peninsula Museums Forum Annual Scholarship

This scholarship provides financial assistance to members of our local museum community, studying or working in the Virginia Peninsula, who wish to attend the annual conference. Financial assistance will be given to two applicants this year and includes coverage of full conference registration rates. VAM members and non-members are welcome to apply.

Applicants who are working, volunteering, studying museum-related fields, etc. in the following Virginia Peninsula Areas will be given precedence: Smithfield, Williamsburg, Yorktown, Jamestown, Gloucester, Hampton, Newport News, Fort Eustis, and Poquoson.

Please note: If you have received any of these scholarships within the past two years, you are not currently eligible for that scholarship.
