Virginia Museum of Natural History Diversity Internship program

The Virginia Museum of Natural History invites high school, undergraduate, and graduate students from diverse backgrounds and an interest in a career in the museum field to take part in the museum’s Diversity Internship Program. Depending upon the availability of projects, interns may choose to focus on a particular area within the museum—such as administration, collections, education, exhibits, marketing, or guest services—or opt for a combination of areas for a broader experience.

The Virginia Museum of Natural History does not place any restrictions on what constitutes diversity. However, preference will be given to those candidates who best identify how they will add to the diversity of the Virginia Museum of Natural History and the museum field generally.

Requirements

Like all Virginia Museum of Natural History staff, internship applicants must consent to a criminal background check.

High school, undergraduate, and graduate students are eligible for this internship; however, preference will be given to students who have completed at least one year of college.

Internships are eight weeks. Start/ end dates are flexible based on the intern’s availability.

Interns work up to 20 hours per week and receive a stipend of $15 per hour. (Stipend does not include travel expenses or housing.)

Interns must attend all training sessions and meetings required by their supervisor.

Application Process

Submit completed internship packets to Lynette Perkins, Human Resource Manager, via email to lynette.perkins@vmnh.virginia.gov.

Please include all of the following:

· Completed diversity internship application
