Position Status: Part-time; Non-Exempt 

Salary Range/Pay Rate: $15.00/hour

Position Summary:  

The Virginia Museum of History & Culture (VMHC) seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Retail Sales Associate who has an authentic interest in the mission and work of the VMHC. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in supporting retail sales in the museum shop and have experience in customer service, strong organizational skills, and a passion for history is a plus! This is a forward-facing, in person position that will require active, ongoing engagement with guests, colleagues and other visitors to the Museum  

Duties & Responsibilities:  

• Assist the Retail Coordinator in on-site and e-commerce sales, stocking, shipping and inventory management 

• Create a positive work environment and be a visible presence in the museum store  

• Support ongoing museum programs, events, and work with the Events & Hospitality Services team to provide retail support for facility rentals, events, and meetings 

• Available to work on weekends and holidays that the museum is open. The standard schedule for this position will be 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM on Saturdays and Sundays, plus additional days if needed.  

• Performs other duties as assigned.  

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Necessary:  

• Knowledge of point of sales systems as well as retail best practices 

• Ability to effectively multi-task on the sales floor 

• Maintain a clean well-stocked sales floor 

• Excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills  

Education & Experience Requirements: 

• Previous retail experience, preferably in a museum setting 

• E-commerce experience preferred  

Notes & Special Requirements: 

• This is a temporary position through the end of January 2027.
