Programs and Education Manager

 

Loudoun Museum Background:
The Loudoun Museum, located in downtown Leesburg, VA, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The Museum’s mission is to navigate Loudoun County's evolving future, conserve Loudoun's diverse and complete history, interpret authentically, and disseminate knowledge of Loudoun’s culture, history, and natural treasures.

 

Position Description:

The Programs and Education Manager will work in collaboration with staff, volunteers, and the Board to provide physical and intellectual access to the museum exhibits, build programmatic initiatives, and develop educational content and programs. This position will be a key member of the operational staff for the museum reporting to the Executive Director, with additional duties as assigned.

 

Programming:

  • Collaborate on the conception, planning, and implementation of public programs and events to amplify the museum mission.
  • Help create, schedule, and deliver programs to Loudoun County students in-school, on-site and virtually.
  • Facilitate connection with LCPS and other K-12 student groups; develop programs relating to curriculum and Virginia SOLs.
  • Create and deliver professional development opportunities for teachers.
  • Prepare resources relating to local history and preservation for educators, families, and the public.
  • Serve as a liaison between the schools, museum staff, and other partners for potential field trips to sites of historical significance in Loudoun County.
  • Coordinate correspondence and promotional materials related to planned programming.
  • Collect programmatic data, including maintaining accurate attendance records, recording audience demographics, and gathering participant feedback.
  • Represents the museum publicly at events, fundraising, and outreach programs.
  • Collaborate on the creation of compelling content across multiple social media platforms.

 

Operations/Visitor Experience:

  • Provide meaningful visitor experiences through knowledgeable and trained volunteers, interns, and docents.
  • Provide supervision for frontline services by volunteers and interns, including front desk, group visits, educational programs, and special events.
  • Perform or oversee opening procedures.
  • Supervise operation of the museum and volunteers during open hours, as assigned.
  • Support the welcome desk operations as needed.

 

Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in history, education, public history, museum studies, or related field required.
  • Experience working in a museum setting preferred.
  • Experience working with K-12 grade groups in an educational setting preferred.
  • Ability to take initiative and work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Solid project management and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple, diverse, and competing priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent customer service, organization, and communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite required.

 

Job Type & Pay:

This is a 37.5 hours per week, full-time, exempt position. This position includes regular weekends and some holiday work. The salary is $48,000-$52,000, depending on qualifications.
