Position Title: Part Time Educational Specialist

This part time Educational Specialist position is an independent contractor role with the Friends of the Army Women's Museum Association, located at Fort Lee, VA. The position supports

educational programming at the US Army Women’s Museum through tours, museum programs, local outreach, and live studio broadcasts that deliver distance learning programs.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of effective teaching practices to support educational programming in

an informal learning environment.

  • Perform professional administrative duties (for example develop work plans, write and monitor evaluations, track and validate time and attendance) to ensure support and direction are provided to the FAWMA/AWM online learning platform and the FAWMA Board of Directors.
  • Utilize the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration (CILC) learning platform and

Zoom to deliver virtual programming.

  • Train, utilize, and facilitate museum developed programming.
  • Collaborate in creating comprehensive education programs using exhibits, artifacts, and educator developed materials to enhance the learning experience of students in partnership with FAWMA and the AWM Museum Curator.
  • Market and promote curriculum and programs in support of FAWMA and the AWM.
  • Complete additional work as directed by the FAWMA Board of Directors and the AWM

Note: Candidates must be comfortable using various technologies to deliver programs in a live broadcast environment and be able to work both as part of a team and independently.

 

Education Requirements

 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, History, Museum Studies, Public History, American Studies, or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated professional experience in classroom education, museum education, informal learning environments, virtual education, or curriculum development.
  • Experience working with K–12, higher education, or public audiences in a classroom, educational, or museum setting strongly preferred, but not required.
