Morven Park is a non-profit 1,000-acre historic property in Loudoun County, Virginia, hosting two museums, a robust civics education programs, a world-class equestrian center and the 246 Years Project. Morven Park’s Preservation & History department is responsible for the care, preservation, and interpretation of the Davis Mansion, its associated 19th century outbuildings, and early 20th century agricultural structures. Position Summary

As a member of the Preservation & History department, reporting to the Director of Preservation & History, the Museum & Interpretation Coordinator is responsible for the historic interpretation and daily operations of the museums at Morven Park.

This is a full-time, exempt position with a competitive benefits package. The schedule is based on the museum’s hours of operation and will typically include a Thursday through Monday workweek, with flexibility as needed for special events.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Manage the administration of the Davis Mansion Visitor Center including brochures, signage, admission policies, visitor counts, inventories, and point-of-sale system.
  • Lead guided tours of the Davis Mansion.
  • Develop, implement, and manage a volunteer program to support Davis Mansion tour operations.
  • Review and update tour scripts annually to maintain accuracy while continuing to provide relevant and compelling historical information.
  • Research, create and present public programs on topics that align with Morven Park’s history.
  • Manage the group tour program including responding to group tour requests, creating invoices, processing payments, confirming bookings, and reviewing policies.
  • Assists the Preservation & History and Marketing team in producing relevant and creative content for Morven Park’s social media channels and website.
  • Schedule the museum team for daily tours, group tours, and special tours or programs.
  • Perform all daily museum opening and closing tasks.
  • Assists with Morven Park events and programs as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Position Skills & Qualifications

 

  • Strong customer service skills and a friendly, welcoming demeanor.
  • Passion for history and museums paired with strong communication skills.
  • Experience leading public history tours and/or creating public programs at a museum or cultural institution.
  • Knowledge of museum interpretation practices and proven ability to apply that knowledge in creating or leading engaging public programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise, manage, and coach employees or volunteers.
  • Able to collaborate with a wide variety of individuals and organizations.
  • Positive approach to problem-solving, new tasks, and collaborative projects.
  • A degree in History, Museum Studies, or allied field and previous experience in the museum field required. An advanced degree in history, museum studies, or allied field preferred.
