General Statement of Duties The Membership Manager is responsible for planning and administering all aspects of the General Membership efforts, including membership sales, fulfillment, member events, stewardship and data base management and integrity. Dedication to excellent customer service is an integral component of this position. This position recognizes the capacity to achieve greater results by integrating skilled volunteers and leveraging their diverse knowledge and abilities. The Membership Manager reports directly to the Senior Director Guest Experience and works with the Guest Services Manager.

College degree or a minimum of five years membership management experience 
A thorough understanding of the principles and practices of General Membership, and demonstrated success for at least three years in membership or similar work. 
Excellent organizational skills and attention to accuracy and detail with the ability to multi-task. 
Outgoing personality who enjoys working with people and is committed to providing exceptional customer service. 
Non-profit experience is preferred 
Talent in developing campaigns and motivating staff towards a sales goal. 
Creative problem solver. Able to maintain data base and develop queries. 
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a variety of constituents. 
Proficiency in ALTRU, Constant Contact and Microsoft Office a must. 
Works well with a team and has supervisory experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Be a positive, enthusiastic representative of the Virginia Living Museum. 
Develop and implement new and existing membership drives for the acquisition of new members, the renewal of current members, and the return of lapsed members. 
Work with the Senior Director Guest Experience to set goals for membership drives. 
Train & motivate the front desk staff to sell memberships and welcome museum members. 
Supervise data entry. 
Maintains the integrity of the ALTRU database and acts as the expert coordinating the Museum’s users to ensure maximum potential is recognized as users are trained and working using agreed to procedures. 
Ensure that all renewals and new member’s applications purchased through mail, online, phone and front desk are processed appropriately and within one week. 
Administer all aspects of membership, including receipt and documentation of checks and credit cards, using ALTRU, and handling of ASTC reciprocal matters. 
Update reciprocity agreements with ASTC and North Carolina Aquariums. 
Plan and implement membership drives, benefits and promotions. Keep Guest Services Manager up-to-date on new promotions or policy changes. 
Respond to telephone, email and in-person inquiries regarding membership. 
Prepare and mail renewals & e-reminders on monthly schedule. Maintain USPS bulk mail account & procedures. 
Provide the Senior Director Guest Experience with recommendations on budget, policy, and procedures regarding memberships. 
Create monthly reports on membership sales, renewals, lapses, etc. 
Create & manage member events including exhibit previews, appreciation days and members’ only contests & drawings. 
Develop relationships with members that promote long term partnerships. 
Maintain inventory of membership supplies, providing all membership materials for front desk staff. 
Assist in design, coordination and updates to membership materials. 
Write effective and creative copy and serve as a copy editor for membership and other communications. 
Stay knowledgeable of museum and local events 
Work with the Guest Services Manager to ensure outgoing mail is posted and deliveries are accepted in a responsible manner. 
Represent the museum at fairs and festivals and other outside events to promote memberships and visitation. 
Represents the museum by expertly handling online and phone inquiries. Ensures questions and comments are forwarded to the correct personnel, answered and that the phone system greetings stay current. 
Manage the Museum birthday party program.
Collect and review data and current trends in order to provide an excellent product while also maximizing revenue. Order all supplies. 
Engage and oversee volunteers in completion of duties. 
Perform all other duties as assigned.

Essential Job Requirements:
Ability to work occasional evenings/weekends. 
Must be able to hear and speak clearly. 
Physical requirements include medium work, exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. 
Must be able stand for extended periods of time and move about on foot to accomplish tasks. 
Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, push, pull, lift, grasp, feel, and utilize repetitive motions. 
Must have close visual acuity to operate a motor vehicle and perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing a computer, and extensive reading. 
The position is subject to environmental conditions for activities occurring indoors and outdoors.
