HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTOR (Part-time, 20 hours/week)
Reporting to the Executive Director & CEO, the Human Resources Director serves as a strategic and collaborative leader responsible for driving all aspects of human resources management and organizational culture functions in alignment with the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley’s (MSV) mission, values, and organizational plans and priorities. This role oversees the planning, development, and implementation of comprehensive HR programs, to include recruitment and talent acquisition, compensation and benefits, performance management, training and professional development, compliance, and employee relations. The HR Director works cross-functionally with leadership to align HR initiatives with organizational goals, foster an inclusive and high-performing workplace, and promote employee engagement and growth. In addition, the HR Director provides collaborative support to the Finance team, including assistance with budgeting, audits, and payroll administration.
As a member of the Museum of Shenandoah Valley’s (MSV) senior leadership team, the Human Resources Director is also expected to work closely with the Executive Director & CEO in furtherance of departmental and organizational goals. This work includes proactively participating in leadership team meetings, engaging in collaborative and honest conversations, building trust and strong relationships with colleagues, working to ensure organizational success, and representing and advocating for the MSV team.
The Human Resources Director must also bring a positive attitude to their work and promote belonging, goodwill, and wellness within the organization. Finally, the Human Resources Director should be an enthusiastic and willing learner, one who is committed to their own development and growth, and one who is passionate about facilitating the success and wellbeing of their colleagues.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources management or related field is required. SHRM certification or Master’s degree in business, human resources or related field is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in human resources, including at least two (2) years in a leadership capacity, is preferred. Experience in a higher education, museum or cultural/arts and mission driven environment a plus.
- Strategic Expertise: Demonstrated ability to design and execute HR strategies that support organizational objectives, foster collaboration, and enhance employee experience.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of federal and state employment laws and compliance requirements.
- Talent Acquisition: Proven success in full-cycle recruitment across all levels, with awareness of emerging recruitment technologies and market trends.
- Employee Relations: Strong capability in problem-solving, conflict resolution, and cultivating a positive, equitable workplace culture.
- Performance & Development: In-depth knowledge of performance management systems and talent development practices.
- Compensation & Benefits: Proficiency in administering competitive compensation structures, payroll processes, and employee benefits programs.
- Financial Acumen: Experience supporting financial functions such as budget, reconciliation, and audit.
- Collaboration & Leadership: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to build trust, influence stakeholders, and drive cross-departmental collaboration.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced computer skills, including MS Office and HRIS platforms; familiarity with the newest recruiting technologies. Experience with Paychex is a plus.
- Ethics: Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and commitment to professional ethics.
- Communication: Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
Position and Hours:
This is a part-time, salaried position with flexible work hours, primarily weekdays 9am – 5pm. Employee is eligible for 403(b) retirement plan after one year of employment.
