Position Title – Historical Interpreter

Salary - $18.65 - $25.17/Hourly

Bachelor's degree in history, anthropology, museum studies, or a related field; experience as an interpreter or educator in a museum or historic site or teaching experience in the fields of history, anthropology, or elementary education preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must possess curatorial skills, cash handling skills and proficiency using Microsoft Office software. Must have excellent customer service skills. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.


Under the direction of the Historical Sites Supervisor, responsibilities include oversight of daily operation of Magnolia Grange Museum House to include routine inspections of museum property. Conduct tours while providing historical information about Chesterfield County's 18th and 19th century history; research and plan programs, special events, grade, and age-level-appropriate and public speaking programs. Work with volunteers and provide exceptional customer service. Coordinate rental requests, track visitation and volunteer hours, present interpretive/educational programming, teach pre-approved lesson plans in SOL-aligned programs to children grades Pre-K through Grade 12 onsite and outreach programs. Perform other work as required.


28 hours/week; varies Monday - Friday; work as needed on weekends or evenings for special events and programs
