About The Branch - The Branch Museum of Architecture and Design (“The Branch”), located in beautiful Richmond, Virginia, is dedicated to elevating awareness of the transformative power of architecture and design. The Branch House – the museum’s home on Monument Avenue – was designed by John Russel Pope in 1916 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1967. Following significant repairs to the building, the museum recently hired a new executive director and is about to launch a new five-year strategic plan.

To further our mission, The Branch seeks a highly collaborative Events Manager. This is a key position, essential to the museum’s earned revenue development, and candidates must be creative strategists who can help grow event rentals business. Additionally, they play a lead role and work with the museum team to execute museum events.


Event Rentals

§ Work with museum leadership to develop an event rentals business plan to increase revenue while reducing the impact on museum activities.

§ Work with Marketing Manager to promote the museum’s event rental spaces.

§ Manage day-of event logistics and ensure the safe use of museum facilities and adherence to all museum policies.

§ Facilitate event rentals to include weddings, daytime and evening meetings, corporate events, photo shoots, and other facility rentals.

§ Respond to and follow up on all incoming event rental inquiries promptly, including client site visits and developing proposals.

§ Develop and manage contracts, invoices, payment processing, floorplans, and insurance certificates.

§ Write and send appropriate thank you letters for clients and event partners.

Museum Event Management

§ Work with museum staff to ensure a stellar event experience for our audiences.

§ Coordinate logistics for select museum events, including design, setup/breakdown, staffing, run-of-show, invitations, RSVPs, and evaluation.

§ Work with Development and Marketing team to secure event sponsorships and in-kind support from vendors; write and send appropriate thank you letters for event partners, in-kind contributors, and beverage sponsors.

§ Participate in museum special event committees for major fundraising events.

§ Generate surveys, and report on attendance and data collected.


§ Manage day-of event staff and/or volunteers.

§ Build professional relationships with and manage external event vendors, including event planners, caterers, and equipment rental companies.

§ Cultivate beneficial relationships and partnerships with tourism, hospitality, community, business, and professional design organizations.

§ Ensure ABC compliance leading up to and day of events; procuring/coordinating alcohol orders and maintain inventory.

§ Manage and oversee catering logistics, whether through vendors or by procuring supplies.

§ Secure, manage, and administer vendor contracts.

§ Ensure that all events adhere to the museum’s Special Use Permit guidelines, including procuring all necessary permits from the city or clients.

§ Develops and distributes special event FAQ documents, attendee event surveys, and post-event reports.

§ Responsible for maintaining inventories of event assets and supplies.

§ Develop and manage events annual budgets.

§ Prepare reports for staff and board as needed.

§ Cover the museum’s admissions desk as needed.

§ Other duties as assigned.


§ BA/BS in Hospitality or related field, or comparable education and experience.

§ Minimum 2 years’ non-internship events logistics and contracts experience in a professional environment.

§ Museum, arts, or non-profit events management experience a plus.

§ Highly proficient in the entire MS Office suite.

§ Experience developing budgets and tracking metrics to measure effectiveness of business plan against intended outcomes.

§ High energy, poised, personable, and excellent diplomatic skills are essentials.

§ Strong interpersonal communication skills, centered on teamwork, humility, and humor.

§ High level of initiative, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.

§ Demonstrated team player with strong collaboration abilities.

§ Ability to work independently and meet deadlines, using sound judgment to navigate obstacles as needed and complete tasks with minimal guidance.

§ Unquestionable integrity and commitment to professional ethics, and ability to work with a wide range of people.

§ Must be able to work frequent non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and limited holidays as needed to accommodate event rentals and museum activities.

§ Must have the ability to lift/exert force to 25 pounds regularly, and occasionally up to 50 pounds to move objects.

§ Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver's license.

Compensation and Benefits

This is an Exempt level, full-time benefited position located on-site in Richmond, VA. The annual salary is $40,000, with growth opportunities in an expanding and progressive workplace. The museum must perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment.

COVID Vaccination Requirement

The Branch Museum of Architecture and Design expects all current and new employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19. New staff will be required to provide proof of vaccination. Employees may request a medical or religious exemption from vaccination and be willing to obtain weekly prevalence testing.
