Position Title – Café Coordinator

Salary - $36,000/Annually

The Café Coordinator serves as part of the museum's Guest Engagement division, reports to the Manager of Retail & Food Services, and is primarily responsible for the daily supervision and operation of the Virginia Museum of History & Culture's Museum Café. In addition to these responsibilities, the Café Coordinator will help to staff the Museum Café, take, prepare, and serve food and beverage orders to recipe and customer specifications, and provide best-in-class customer service while maintaining a clean, safe work environment.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Direct a team of Café Associates and coordinate daily staffing of the Museum Café
  • Train Café Associates on drink recipes as well as operation of Café equipment, Point of Sale systems, and daily operating procedures
  • Ensure appropriate inventory levels and work to reduce waste
  • Develop and refresh Museum Café merchandising and promotional displays
  • Work closely with VMHC Special Events to provide catering services for select internal events, facility rentals, and special events.
  • Maintain the highest standards for food safety, Virginia ABC regulations, and cleanliness in accordance with state and local law
  • Support a variety of public and donor engagement events as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Necessary:

  • Dedicated to providing best-in-class customer service
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work weekends, holiday, and occasional evenings or special events
  • Physical requirements include standing for long periods of time, retrieving merchandise that can weigh up to 30 pounds.


Education & Experience Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Food service and point of sale experience
  • Customer service experience preferred

Note & Special Requirements:

  • Previous supervisory experience preferred
  • Current or prior Servsafe food handler certification is a plus
