Professional Bio

Scotty Almany is a native Virginian born and raised in Bristol. He holds an BS in Professional Communications from Old Dominion University and received his Master's in Museum Studies from John Hopkins University in early 2016. Scotty also has more than eleven years’ experience in the museum field working at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum since it opened in 2014 until starting at the Taubman Museum of Art as the Deputy Director of Operations and Project Management in May of 2023. He also stays involved in the museum field in a broader capacity with involvement in various roles with the Southeastern Museum Conference where he has served on the Program Committee, co-chair of the conference’s Technology Competition, presenter at the annual conferences, and as part of Application Review Committee for the 2025 Jeckyl Island Management Institute. Scotty also completed the Jekyll Island Management Institute (JIMI) as part of the 2023 cohort and started a three-year appointment in 2024 on the Virginia Association of Museums' Governing Council as Regional Director of the Southwest Region.

When not actively in the role of a museum professional, Scotty also has many other interests, such as being a dedicated music enthusiast, film lover, ice hockey fan, and a convincing amateur musician. He also loves to travel (most anywhere) and spending any downtime with his wife and their "domestic zoo" of four dogs and two cats.
