Interpretation Team Member, Part-Time
Pay: $15 - $16 per hour
Position Summary: Stratford Hall Historic Preserve is seeking an engaging, adaptable, and collaborative Interpretation Team Member to help bring our site's rich and complex history to life. In this dynamic, part-time role, you will be on the front lines of visitor engagement, supporting the Director of Education and Interpretation Team in delivering transformative K–12 programming, staffing the historic Great House, and ensuring the seamless execution of site-wide events. This is an excellent opportunity for an educator or history enthusiast passionate about sharing the diverse stories of the people who lived and labored at Stratford.
Key Responsibilities:
K–12 Educational Programming:
- Facilitate hands-on educational stations, historical demonstrations, and guided activities for elementary, middle, and high school students.
- Manage student group logistics to maintain smooth program flow and a high-quality learning environment.
- Assist with the setup, breakdown, and organization of K-12 programming spaces and materials.
Visitor Engagement & Event Operations:
- Staff the Great House during visitation hours, seasonal programs, and special events to welcome, direct, and assist guests.
- Provide essential logistical support for large-scale public programs and workshops, from preparing activity stations to managing visitor flow.
- Maintain the inventory and organization of educational supplies before, during, and after events.
Administrative & Cross-Department Support:
- Assist with basic program administration, including attendance tracking and material preparation for upcoming outreach initiatives.
- Provide support for other site areas as needed, including Visitor Center and Gift Shop staffing.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods, navigate uneven historic terrain, and lift/carry up to 25 pounds of educational materials.
Desired Qualifications:
- A demonstrated interest in education, history, public history, museum studies, archaeology, or a related field.
- Prior experience working with children, student groups, or public audiences is highly preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a welcoming, professional, and approachable demeanor.
- A collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
- Flexibility to assist with occasional evening or weekend events as programming requires.
Schedule & Commitment: This is a part-time role with variable hours driven by seasonal programming needs. Candidates can expect an average schedule of four days per month during the slower seasons, with additional hours required and available during peak K-12 field trip windows and large public events. This position reports to the Director of Education.
