The Children’s Museum is searching for Director of Facilities and Exhibits to help us achieve our mission of inspiring growth in all children by engaging families in learning through play. 

 

This role is ideal for a hands-on, mission-driven leader who thrives on managing people, projects, and spaces that bring joy and discovery to children and families. This position serves on the leadership team and reports directly to the Executive Director.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all aspects of facilities management, maintenance, and exhibit construction/repair across both museum locations.
  • Lead, coach, and support the Facilities, Exhibits, Housekeeping, and Operations teams to maximize engagement and performance in alignment with CMoR’s strategic goals.
  • Negotiate and manage building service contracts.
  • Serve as Project Manager for special facilities initiatives, including seasonal events, renovations, and construction projects.
  • Develop and implement policies for safety, security, and compliance to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming museum environment for guests and staff.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years in facilities management, with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role. Experience in a nonprofit, cultural institution, museum, or educational setting is highly valued.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, security, life safety, and general construction). Experience overseeing renovations, capital projects, and exhibit fabrication is desired.
  • Project Management: Proven ability to develop and manage project budgets, timelines, and contractors/vendors while balancing multiple priorities. Familiarity with project management software or tools is preferred.
  • Technology: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and comfort learning other databases/software as necessary.
  • Compliance & Safety: Knowledge of OSHA standards, ADA requirements, safety codes, and risk management best practices. Experience developing and implementing safety/security policies and emergency procedures.

 

Other Requirements:

  • Valid unrestricted driver’s license with clean driving record
  • and the ability to pass a background check.
  • Physical ability to walk/stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and occasionally use tools.
  • Flexibility to work occasional night, holiday, or weekend hours to support museum events or projects.

 

Salary:

$60,000-$75,000 with full benefits
