Salary Range: $50,000-60,000

 

Established in 1997, The Arts Center began by offering classes and having small gallery shows in leased spaces. In 2001, former business owner and town mayor Bob Morin donated his 11,000 square foot building on Main Street to The Arts Center.  The first floor of the former retail store has been renovated and includes two gallery spaces, a classroom, a ceramics studio, and a gift shop. The second floor is available for further

expansion and is currently used for storage.

 

The mission of The Arts Center in Orange is to increase the quality of life in our community by promoting an

appreciation for fine contemporary arts in diverse styles and ideologies.

 

This is accomplished by providing:

  • a forum to promote artistic excellence; scholarship and education
  • a venue for Virginia artists and artisans to work, teach, exhibit, and sell work
  • a place for the community to learn skills, and to participate in, as well as enjoy the arts

Key Responsibilities

  1. Planning and execution of development plan, including grant funding from the Virginia Commission for the Arts, private and public foundations, and individuals, and fundraising events and other special events.

 

  1. Preparation and management of the annual budget, working closely with bookkeeper to manage accounts payable to vendors and artists and payroll. Prepare monthly financial reports for the Board. Compile financial documentation for an annual audit and preparation of IRS Form 990.

 

  1. Support the Board of Directors in their strategic planning, development, and community outreach activities. Compile requested information and documents for Board meetings.

 

  1. Identify, negotiate, and install exhibits in the Morin and Community Gallery; including the recruitment and cultivation of guest curators 

 

  1. Supervise the expansion of the gift shop by recruiting appropriate artists and artisans to sell their work in the shop. Rebuild strong relationships with local artists who displayed their work in the shop prior to the pandemic.

 

  1. Supervision of the part time staff and volunteers who help with daily operations.

 

  1. Oversee all electronic media, including website management, social media, email marketing, and online fundraising.

 

Required Qualifications

  1. Five years of experience working in an arts organization or other nonprofit, or equivalent combination of education and experience, with at least one year in a management position; visual arts experience a plus.

 

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in art, art history, arts management, nonprofit management, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

  1. Active, demonstrated fundraising experience with clear understanding of fundraising sources, grant application writing, and maintenance of strong donor relations.

 

  1. Experience growing organizational awareness in the broader community combined with creative marketing concepts to promote programs, initiatives, and events.

 

  1. Ability to effectively communicate the mission in a manner that engages stakeholders, members, donors, volunteers, and the community.

  2. Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting. Success in generating new revenue streams and the achievement of strong financial results.
