Position Title: Curator of Archives and Exhibitions For the Clarke County Historical Association (CCHA)

Position Overview: The Curator of Archives and Exhibitions is instrumental in fulfilling CCHA’s mission to preserve Clarke County’s historic resources and records, fostering their use, understanding, and appreciation through stewardship and education. Guiding our vision to work collaboratively in preserving and sharing Clarke County’s rich history, this is a 32-hour a week position that reports to the Director of CCHA and supervises a part-time Archives Technician and volunteer staff.

Key Responsibilities:

· Catalog, process, and organize archival collections of documents and artifacts, ensuring proper preservation methods.

· Collaborate with the Archives Technician to upgrade the permanent exhibit and develop 2-3 dynamic, rotating temporary exhibitions annually.

· Partner with the Museum Administrator to create engaging social media content promoting collections and exhibitions.

· Assist in planning, creating, and delivering seminars, tours, and programs that highlight the archives' historical significance.

· Transcribe, edit, and maintain accurate records and descriptions within the Re:Discovery database and online finding aids.

· Attend all meetings of the Archives and Research committee.

· Develop original historical articles and content for publication, including supporting the annual Proceedings with the Publications Committee.

· Provide reference services (in-person and remote) for genealogical and historical inquiries, with meticulous record-keeping.

· Manage the disposition of obsolete materials and non-archival records.

· Offer training, supervision, and guidance to staff, volunteers, and interns working in the archives.

· Contribute to securing new items that enhance the collection’s relevance and depth, actively seeking community and donor engagement.

· Support ongoing collection development, exhibit planning, and strategic projects outlined by CCHA leadership.

Goals for Position:

· Lead the overhaul of the CCHA Museum, creating more engaging and interactive displays that attract increased visitation.

· Organize and produce 2-3 impactful temporary exhibitions annually.

· Elevate awareness of the archives’ importance within the community through outreach and education.

· Identify, acquire, and document relevant new materials to enrich the collection.

Qualifications:

· Proven experience working with historic collections and archives.

· Familiarity with collections management systems such as Re:Discovery or equivalent.

· Ability to work in a team environment.

· Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.

· Strong communication skills a must.

· Ability to greet visitors and be personable to staff, visitors, and board members.

· Experience developing small exhibitions preferred.

· Ability to supervise staff and volunteers effectively.

· Must be able to work nights and weekends when necessary.

· Sound knowledge of archival principles, preservation practices, and standards.

· Capable of processing, describing, and preserving collections with a focus on organizational and historical value.

· A quick learner committed to staying current with archival technology.

· Must lift up to 25 pounds and be flexible to work evenings, weekends, holidays, or overtime as needed.

· College degree in Library Sciences, History, or related fields preferred; relevant experience may substitute.

Compensation and Benefits:

· Salary: 32 hours a week at $19 an hour ($31,616 annually)
