Director of Civic Partnerships
Overview:
Monticello seeks a dynamic and strategic leader to serve as Director of Civic Partnerships—a newly created role central to advancing our mission and a new strategic plan that will positions Monticello as a civic institution cultivating the virtues necessary for self-governance and promoting a sense of belonging among diverse audiences.
The Director of Civic Partnerships will have the unique opportunity to help shape the future of civic learning in the United States as Monticello takes on the role of host and hub of the Educating for American Democracy (EAD) Community Learning Partners network, comprising more than 300 professionals representing 200 history and civic organizations across the country. Together, this network has aligned around EAD’s Roadmap for history and civics education to reach millions on site and perhaps one hundred million online. The network provides a community of practice that nourishes their skills and deepens their programs.
Position Summary:
The Director of Civic Partnerships will integrate and elevate Monticello’s civic education partnerships and programs for learners of all ages. A key leader in the Foundation’s civic engagement strategy, the Director will grow Monticello’s national footprint in this area by stewarding partnerships with educators, universities, community groups, civic organizations, and other public history institutions.
The Director will lead programs that promote civil discourse, civic literacy, and historical understanding—anchored in Monticello’s role as a historic site and convener of national conversations. This individual will also serve as the lead coordinator of the EAD Community Learning Partner Task Force.
This position is open until filled.
Salary: $85,000 - $87,000 annually.
