Position Title – Payroll Accountant

Salary - $22-25/hour

Summary: As a team member in the Finance and Administration Department, the Payroll Accountant will be responsible for handling and maintaining all the payroll functions of the organization, along with updating all payroll records, processing time sheets and answering all payroll-related questions. You will process all employee benefit billings/expenses, oversee, administer and maintain employee deductions, census and reporting within the organizations HRIS System, while ensuring integrity and compliance of reports and audits 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Administer bi-weekly payroll processing for accuracy, deductions, levies and garnishments, accruals, changes and reporting.
  • Process timesheet records and other documents (e.g. W-2 and tax forms).
  • Answer employee questions about their perspective personal salaries, wages and payments.
  • Coordinate with HR about changes in payroll (e.g. terminations, new hires).
  • Process all employee benefit deductions, expenses, electronic payments, census review, reporting, and compliance.
  • Organize reporting to include worker’s compensation and general audit.
  • Ensure electronic transactions of payroll and recording of benefits are processed accurately and timely.
  • Cross balancing of monthly employee benefits within the HRIS system to monthly benefits billing.
  • Prepare journal entries reflecting earnings, taxes and deductions.
  • Reconcile bills by producing and balancing to reports to ensure accuracy of billing.
  • Manage and reconcile bi-weekly/quarterly retirement account.
  • Conduct benefits orientations and explain benefits enrollment systems, prepare and distribute benefits enrollment materials and document administrative procedures for benefit enrollments
  • Serve as primary contact with carriers and third-party administrators, responds to benefits inquiries from employees relating to status changes, plan provisions, and other general inquiries.
  • Maintain professional privacy and high degree of confidentiality.
  • Assist with general accounting duties including cross training for accounts payable and receivable functions.
  • Support other Finance and Administration team members. 

 

Qualifications:

  •  Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field
  • Minimum of five years in payroll/accounting field and knowledge of non-profits
  • Essential attention to detail and high degree of accuracy.
  • Extensive knowledge of payroll systems.
  • Extraordinary mathematical skills and solid analytical abilities.
  • Proficient with Excel spreadsheets.
  • Well organized and detail-oriented, able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Technical proficiency with computers, databases, Microsoft software programs, HRIS and payroll software.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and computer work.
  • The position requires familiarity with all public areas of the 82-acre Garden property.
