Job Duties

Conducts programs, demonstrations, and on-going interpretations as assigned
• Understands the Museum’s mission, strategic goals, and expectations and applies this knowledge to daily interpretation, demonstrations, and programs.
• Displays excellent customer service skills; initiates communication & interacts with visitors, colleagues and others consistently in a friendly, professional manner.
• Communicates accurate historical information to visitors.
• In all programs & demonstrations, uses hands-on, inquiry-based teaching strategies appropriate to age and learning level of the audience and with high level of visitor interaction.
• Assumes designated leadership role when and if assigned.
• Mentors volunteer, wage, and classified staff as assigned.
• Applies information and policies in interpreter manual to daily activities as appropriate.
• Wears costume according to FCMV costume guidelines.
• Exhibits professional workplace behavior and ethics

Assists in the care and maintenance of agency property
• Performs routine housekeeping and livestock care tasks on daily basis, according to established procedures.
• Uses and maintains site material culture items appropriately.

Administrative duties
• Completes weekly timesheets using the Cardinal HCM system.
• Checks mailbox daily and responds as appropriate, If assigned an email account, checks a minimum of twice weekly and responds as appropriate.
• Files incident reports promptly as needed
• Follows state/agency/museum policies
• Attends all Commonwealth and agency mandated training courses


Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of 17th, 18th, and 19th Century history essential. Knowledge of interpretive principles and methods; knowledge of cultural and social history; knowledge of historical agricultural and domestic practices. Dependability, flexibility, positive and professional demeanor with outstanding oral and written communication skills; ability to interact effectively with all age groups; strong organizational and time management skills; ability to set and achieve goals; computer skills and familiarity with office software, internet search engines, etc., research skills, ability to work as team leader or team member as assigned; ability to perform moderate physical labor including, but not limited to, garden and field work and general farm and domestic work; ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, and to lift up to fifty (50) pounds unassisted; ability to work outdoors in a full range of temperatures and weather conditions, and in smoky and dusty conditions; ability to project a positive, professional image to the public and peers at all times.
