Position Title - Grant Writer

Compensation - $55,000

Summary - The Grant Writer reports to the Director of Development and helps to support the long-term strategic goals of the Museum. This position contributes to the achievement of an annual fundraising goal of approximately $1.4M through corporate, foundation, and government grants. Key responsibilities include conducting prospect research, writing and editing grant proposals, reporting progress and milestones to grantors, stewardship of relationships, and knowledge of program evaluation. The Grant Writer will also assist the director with developing, implementing, and executing solicitation strategies--including tracking funding requests and prospects for expanded opportunities. 

Job Responsibilities 

  • Write and edit high-quality grant proposals.
  • Work collaboratively with Museum staff to develop supporting information for proposals.
  • Draft written recognition and acknowledgment materials and support other ongoing stewardship efforts.
  • Ensure timely submission of letters of intent, funding proposals, grant applications, follow-up materials, and reports.
  • Conduct research to identify prospective corporate and foundation donors.
  • Work closely with the Director of Development and granting team to identify potential funding for strategic initiatives and projects.
  • Collaborates with department leaders to support the grant writing process. 
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with funding guidelines and milestones.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Understanding of corporate, private, local, state, and federal funding guidelines and the ability to research potential sources of revenue.
  • Thorough understanding of grant funding policies and procedures and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Thorough understanding of effective grant writing techniques.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.  
  • Extremely organized and meticulous with details.
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to prioritize work and resources.
  • Ability to meet and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to write and interpret financial data and prepare budgets and financial grant reports.
  • Ability to be discreet with personal information that may be needed for some grants such as employee salaries or upcoming projects.

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.
  • Experience in research, data analysis, budgeting, program planning, and implementation.
  • Three to five years of successful experience in grant writing is highly preferred.
  • Previous federal grant writing and award experience is preferred.
  • Technical writing experience (in STEM or Higher Education) is also desired.
