Professional Bio

Jeffrey W. Allison is the Paul Mellon Collection Educator and Director, Statewide Programs and Exhibitions at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and a professional photographer. The Statewide Program includes museum level exhibitions, Speaker on the Arts, Artist Workshops and Performances, and museum consultation. It serves over 1650 partners throughout the state.

He holds a BA in photography from Virginia Intermont College and an MFA in photography and film from VCU. He oversaw the creation of VMFA on the Road Artmobile which features works of art from the museum’s permanent collection and has reached over 720,000 visitors throughout the state since 2018. He has curated numerous exhibitions including 40 Years: 40 Faces, Through Different Eyes: The Faces of Poverty in Virginia, Faces at the Races: Equine Culture in Virginia, and They Call it Stormy Weather: How Artists View the Weather and the Seasons. Most recently, Jeffrey curated the VMFA Artmobile exhibitions, How Far Can Creativity Take You: VMFA Fellowship Artists , Revealing and Obscuring Identity: Portraits form the Permanent Collection, A View from Home: Landscapes of Virginia and, Love, Laughter, Tears: An Artist’s Guide to Emotions.

Jeffrey is on the board of the Virginia Children’s Book Festival and the Council of the Virginia Association of Museums.
