KLUGE-RUHE ABORIGINAL ART COLLECTION AT UVA - CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA

The Visitor Services Specialist will act as the face of the Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection of UVA during public hours on Saturdays, Sundays and Thursday evenings. Educational duties include greeting and educating visitors, answering the phone, assisting with setup of weekend events, communicating with docents and other Kluge-Ruhe staff, leading tours of the museum, evaluating the visitor experience, promoting the museum’s special events and generally ensuring an excellent visitor experience. Security duties include opening, closing and alarming the museum, ensuring the artworks remain safe and secure, and responding appropriately to visitor needs. Gift shop duties include stocking, inventorying and processing sales. Marketing duties include adding Kluge-Ruhe events to community calendars, updating the website, proofing publications and museum text, drafting social media posts and press releases, and other duties dependent on candidate’s skills and interests.
Qualified candidates will love interacting with the public, enjoy gaining cumulative knowledge about Indigenous Australian art and sharing it with others, and will enjoy working independently while providing integral support to a small team.
Preferred candidates will be able to begin employment as early as January 19, 2019.
Position: Part-Time, 15 hours per week
Salary Range: $15-$20 hour
