VIRGINIA MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS-RICHMOND, VA
The VMFA is seeking a dynamic individual to fill the role of Senior Director of Collections Management in the Conservation and Collections – Registrar and Collections Management Department.
Under the direction of the Senior Deputy Director for Conservation and Collections, the Senior Director of Collections Management will oversees the library and collections management activities of the museum, including the supervision of three departments (Registration, Imaging Resources and Library), coordinating the art accessioning and deaccessioning process, and overseeing policy, procedure, and special projects related to the care and management of the Museum’s library and fine art collections.
The ideal candidate will have advanced knowledge of Art History. Proven supervisory, planning, organization, and project management skills. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and juggles multiple projects and assignments simultaneously. Ability to analyze, assess and make recommendations and decisions based upon a sophisticated understanding of museum policy and art museum practices. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking.
Master’s Degree in Art History, Museum studies or equivalent experience. Academic courses or professional training beyond the Master’s Degree is preferred.
Prior substantial experience at progressive levels of increasing responsibility in positions related to collections management and institutional planning.
