Bachelor's degree in education or museum studies, history or anthropology or a related field; experience as an interpreter or educator in a museum or historic site; teaching experience in a school setting; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge of colonial or American Indian history is a plus. Most teaching will be outdoors in varying weather. Must be able to lift 25 pounds. Ability to work with children of all ages and to work with college and adult programs for both on and offsite programs. Lesson planning experience. Good driving record required. Must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
Research and learn both history and pre-planned SOL and STEM-aligned program lesson plans regarding 17th century Powhatan and Colonial cultures for grades Pre-K - 12. Work with teacher workshops and provide programming and demonstrations for day camps, scout programs and family events. Perform other work as required.
28 hours/week; Monday - Friday between 9:00a.m. - 1:00p.m.; occasional weekend or evening hours for special events.
