Function: 

The Manager of Communications and Marketing is the primary manager of The George Washington Foundation’s communications, marketing and public relations efforts while also serving as the point person for technology issues in conjunction with outside consultants. 

 

The ideal candidate has an understanding of and experience with integrated communications, marketing and public relations planning for non-profit organizations.

Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or other related field
    • Demonstrated experience in communications, preferably at a museum, educational, or non-profit organization.
    • Knowledge of marketing related business practices, including advertising, market research, media channels and budgeting.
    • Familiarity with best practices in development/fundraising and development content and communications.
    • Experience in writing press releases and coordinating promotion of events and programs across print, digital, and audio media channels
    • Experience in developing and coordinating a social media strategy with results that convert online engagement to on-site visitation
    • Ability to work in a team environment
    • Be organized and manage time well, while also being able to adapt to last minute updates
    • Possess strong writing skills and attention to detail
    • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, Constant Contact, Facebook, Instagram, Google Ads/analytics, WordPress, and Canva.
    • An interest in photography is preferred

Responsibilities Include (but aren’t limited to)

Responsibilities for this position include a wide range of initiatives as part of marketing, advancement, and development efforts for Historic Kenmore and Washington’s Ferry Farm, such as graphic design projects, creating web and social media content, assisting with technology-related issues, and coordinating media relations.

Communications (45%):

  • Write, edit and collaborate with colleagues in the preparation of content which advances GWF’s mission. Ensure that content is disseminated through print, social media channels and public relations activities.
  • Create content with the Advancement team for direct mail and online appeals and reports.
  • Respond to press and external media inquiries.
  • Staff Foundation online and in-person events as required.

 

Marketing (40%):

  • Develop and execute an integrated strategic Marketing and Communications Plan, recommending strategies consistent with industry best practices.
  • Plan, write and manage content through media channels in coordination with various Departments.
  • Ensure the consistent application of GWF brand across all formats (print, web and social media.)
  • Create content for and publish annual report for Advancement.
  • Coordinate media relations and expand GWF’s communications network
  • Track, evaluate and report on key indices.

Media (5%):

  • Respond to external requests seeking permission to use photos of GWF properties and objects.
  • Oversee photo/video shoots, develop best practice policy recommendations as part of stewarding the GWF’s brand related to its public use. Manage and respond to visitor requests from the website.

 

 

Budget (5%):

  • Works with Director of Advancement on annual budget related to marketing, communications, and coordinate related technology consultant’s recommendations.

 

Assistance with Technology (5%):

  • Coordinates consultants “help desk” solutions on technology related matters, including software functionality, hardware acquisitions, network improvements, and telephone connectivity and serves as point of contact for outside IT consultants.
  • Keeps log of service requests from within Foundation and with consultant.
  • Handle routine tasks in support of technology needs
