The department of K-12 and Youth Learning is designed to ensure that George Washington’s Mount Vernon is focused on creating and providing the best learning experiences available to young people in the world today. To magnify our mission’s impact, each staff member develops departmental programs and projects and also uses their expertise to support other target audience initiatives on the estate, in the library, and across the nation.
Essential Duties:
Assist the Manager of Teacher Learning with George Washington Teacher Institute professional development programs, including, but not limited to the following duties:
  • Assist with multiple program logistics such as:
    • Order and organize supplies
    • Arrange and confirm catering orders, transportation, and lodging
    • Gather and track participant and scholar information and forms
  • Communicate with program participants, scholars, Mount Vernon departments, outside vendors/organizations regarding program logistics
  • Assist in day-of-program implementation including material printing, room set-up, greeting speakers, guiding groups around the Mount Vernon Estate, and monitoring day-of program logistics
  • Other tasks supporting Institute programs, as assigned
  • Assist other K-12 &YL staff with programs and projects when needed
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Administrative experience preferred
  • Ability to work effectively and diplomatically with Mount Vernon staff, patrons, and representatives of schools and other community-based organizations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Capable of undertaking multiple projects simultaneously and balancing long- and short-term priorities
  • Ability to work creatively and effectively as a member of a team
Special Requirements:
  • Must be able to stand/walk for long periods on varying surfaces, inside and outside, and in a variety of conditions
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds
  • Must work occasional weekends, evenings, and holidays
