Position Title – Interpreter and Scout and Family Program Coordinator

Location: Riverbend Park in Great Falls, Virginia. Located on the Potomac River with over 400 acres of forest, meadow and ponds. Will also involve leading programs around the region at different schools, libraries, historic sites and rec centers.

Interpretation: Plan, design and present interpretive programs in natural and cultural history and science topics for age groups ranging from preschool to adults. Groups can include: school groups, scout groups, general public, thematic class series, birthday parties, camps, wagon rides, events and special request programs.
Scout and Family Program Coordinator: Schedule, manage and conduct scout and family programs. Answer inquiries related to scout and family programs and manage schedules of other interpreters.
Other: Front desk, administrative, and other variable jobs included.
Hours: Variable. Weekday mornings and weekend work required. Weekly afternoon and evening hours in addition to required work.
Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a degree in natural, life, or physical sciences, natural history, education or closely related field and 1 year of experience presenting interpretive programs or teaching children & adults. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. CPR/AED/First Aid certified or able to obtain certification within 3 months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications: Additional 2 years of experience beyond minimum. Experience scheduling or managing programs. Certified interpretive guide certification. Boating experience and ACA instructor certification.
Summer: Commit to teaching 8 weeks of camp or functioning as camp director plus leading 1-3 weeks of camp for a total of 30-40 hours/week
Weekdays: Commit to 4 days/week leading school programs (9am-12:30pm) plus flexible time for coordinating and planning scout/family programs.
Weekends: Commit to 3-5 weekend days/month for programs, NIC shifts, other.
Winter: Flexible hours
