TITLE: Group Educator
SALARY: $10.80 per hour
Do you want to be part of a community that shares colonial American history with students from Virginia and across the nation? Our Group Educator positions provide flexible, part-time, seasonal hours teaching about colonial history in an active, engaging manner. Successful candidates do not have to have formal teaching experience or a deep knowledge of colonial history. We will train you! Initial training in content and methodology prepares educators to present engaging tours of Jamestown Settlement to students of all ages. On tours of Jamestown Settlement, the classroom is outside! You will take a group through newly renovated permanent galleries, interact with costumed interpreters, board a full-size sailing replica of the 1607 ships, explore a yehakin in the recreated Powhatan Indian Village, and step through the gates of James Fort. Paid training takes place February 10, 11, 12, 14, 18, 19, 21, 24 and 26. Employment is dependent on being able to attend all training.
TO QUALIFY: Required: experience working with children in either a professional or volunteer capacity, excellent communication skills, proven ability to quickly learn and apply new information, enjoy working with the public, and ability to work outdoors in all reasonable weather conditions. High school diploma or equivalent, some college preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - PLEASE NOTE: All full-time and part-time paid staff of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation are required to complete and sign an Application for Employment. All volunteers of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation are required to complete an Application for Volunteerism. These documents require an employee or volunteer to certify that they have never been convicted for any type of violation. This is above and beyond VA Code §22.1-296.1-C which states “that (i) he has not been convicted of a felony or any offense involving the sexual molestation or physical or sexual abuse or rape of a child; and (ii) whether he has been convicted of a crime of moral turpitude.” In addition, the Foundation completes both name and sex registry background checks through Virginia State Police on all paid and core volunteer staff and the Contractor will (i) maintain all employee certifications on file, (ii) require an employee to update the employee's certification if the employee later is convicted of any reportable offense, and (iii) will make these certifications available for inspection upon request.” Foundation staff must also be eligible to work using the E-Verify system through U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
