Digital Content Assistant: Collections and Learn (Temporary Wage, Non-exempt)

 

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) is seeking flexible, exceptionally organized, strategic collaborator with great communication skills to join the Art and Education Division as a Digital Content Assistant for the Collections and Learn sites.

 

This is a grant-funded position with an anticipated employment duration from January 2022 – October 2022. This is a non-exempt wage position without benefits and is scheduled to work approximately 20 hours per week. 

 

The Digital Content Assistant for Collections and Learn is responsible for coordinating and building online Learn resources and Collections content, including the use of footage from recorded live streamed, Humanities-based programs. This role assists the Interpretation Project Coordinator with management of video content and updates to the Collections and Learn sites.

 

Duties include:

 

Serves as liaison between museum and outside software developers for Collections and Learn Sites.

Works with appropriate staff to ensure Collections and Learn Site adheres to VMFA’s Open Access Policy.

Uploads and manages the Learn education resource and Collections websites through Wordpress.  

Advises on video content placement, description, and categorization, and will facilitate the upload of this content within the Collections and Learn sites. 

Works closely with the Education Department and other museum stakeholders to assist with managing and prioritizing resource and content development for the VMFA Learn website.

Identifies opportunities for resource development including coordinating with appropriate Education and Curatorial staff.

Coordinates production of resource creation including establishing and communicating resource templates, word counts, timelines, and workflow.  

Works with Education staff to research and evaluate the effectiveness of online learning content and educational sites to better understand the evolving on-line learning environment and audience. 

Serves as project manager for resources, liaising with Statewide, Publications, Design, Curatorial and Photography departments and Education staff authors.  

Keeps pace with educational video trends and ensure engaging content is being produced and will consistently measure website traffic and user engagement metrics. Based on established goals, trends, and usage, the Digital Content Assistant will recommend adjustments and topics for future humanities-based video resources.

Optimizes content for SEO and assist with managing content distribution internally and working with the social media team to increase web traffic. 

 

Minimum Qualifications

Basic technical knowledge of HTML and web publishing; experience with Wordpress, H5P and content management systems.

Working knowledge of production techniques and experience with content strategy aligned with short-term and long-term marketing targets.

Knowledge of SEO and web traffic metrics.

Strong familiarity with social media.

Excellent writing skills.

Attention to detail with good organizational and time-management skills.

Proficient with PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Access, Google Workspace.

 

Preferred Qualifications

College-level coursework in virtual education resource development, website development, or a related field

Experience working in a museum environment and with online educational resources.

Selected candidates must pass a criminal history background check. 

VMFA Agency Directive requires:

All staff, volunteers, and contractors are required to wear masks for all indoor and outdoor events. 

While outside on campus grounds, all VMFA employees must wear masks when a social distance of six (6) feet cannot be maintained.
