The Hermitage Museum & Gardens (HMG) is an AAM-accredited museum located on a 12.5 acre campus overlooking the Lafayette River.  The museum features a 5,000-object art collection housed in the property’s original structures and a living collection located throughout its gardens and grounds.  The grounds feature some original landscape designs and hardscape.  These gardens often serve as the stage for contemporary art exhibitions, camps, workshops and educational offerings provided by HMG’s Visual Arts School.  The Hermitage is protected by a conservation easement and serves as a leader in environmental initiatives and conservation efforts engaging in valuable partnerships with many local like-minded organizations toward common goals.  

HMG is seeking an individual who will enjoy the challenges and opportunities inherent in the planning and maintenance of the museum’s historical site and its living collection. This is a hands-on job and most of the work during spring, summer and fall is the day-to-day physical work of maintaining the gardens. The Curator will supervise, assign and direct the work of seasonal staff and volunteers as well as take responsibility of a master plan for garden development and restoration.  He/she will participate in the planning and execution of museum programs and events.

Requirements: B.S. in landscape architecture, horticulture, environmental sciences or a related field.  Master Gardener certification is a plus. A minimum of 5 years experience in operations of a public garden or similar setting is desired.
