Agecroft Hall & Gardens is a 23 acre estate featuring a Tudor house originally built c. 1500 in England and transported to Richmond in 1926. Now a museum, the house highlights daily life in a 17th century English manor house. A variety of gardens designed by Charles Gillette surround the house and feature traditional English elements and plants. Position Title: Business Manager
Reports to: Executive Director

Job Summary:
Primary responsibility for essential financial, administrative and human resources functions of a small, non-profit historic house museum including bookkeeping, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, financial reports and tax reporting. Supervises part-time Assistant Business Manager and housekeeping staff. Secondary responsibility for retail management of the museum’s gift shop.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Process payroll. Responsible for the computation of payroll, payroll tax withholdings and deductions on a semi-monthly basis. Prepare and file all payroll taxes, including monthly and quarterly taxes. Includes the preparation of annual W2s and the tax filing thereof.

2. Oversee cash management including the collection of monies from admissions and museum shop cash drawers and the subsequent bank deposits and ledger entries thereof. Prepare and pay invoices. Maintain accounts receivables as necessary. Also responsible for the reconciliation of bank statements, credit card deposits and all trust account deposits and transfers.

3. Maintain the general ledger for use in preparation of financial statements and for annual auditing purposes. Prepare quarterly financial statements for the Board of Directors.

4. Responsible for record maintenance for all personnel records, human resource activities, minutes of board meetings, accounting records and credit card accounts.

5. Supervise the housekeeping staff and assign special tasks as needed.

6. Manage the retail operations of the museum shop including setting shop policies, purchasing shop merchandise, receiving and inventory of merchandise, attending buyers’ shows; procuring product development. Train staff to work in shop.

7. Assist staff with basic computer training; procure house and office supplies. Responsible for off-site security of Agecroft’s computer network system.

8. Perform additional duties beyond the scope of the above responsibilities as requested by the Executive Director.

Job Requirements:
Minimum of Associates degree and five years of relevant job experience required; college degree preferred. Computer literacy (including Microsoft Office software), a willingness to learn in-house accounting and payroll systems, attention to detail and a valid Virginia driver’s license are also required. Strong preference will be shown to candidates who demonstrate: Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; Ability to establish and maintain positive work relationships with colleagues; Ability to prioritize projects and work independently; Interest in managing the retail operation; Enthusiasm for Agecroft’s mission.
Working Conditions: Office environment. Some light lifting required. Occasional night/weekend work (with advance notice) required.
