The Audiovisual Technicians are vital members of the Digital Services Department and are responsible for using audiovisual technology to advance the department’s primary focus of supporting digital storytelling and digital access. They are responsible for the overall success and maintenance of audiovisual operations within the organization, including responding to audience needs, maintaining audiovisual inventories, and recommending new products and services to meet the needs of presenters and audiences. The Audiovisual Production Technician is the lead for coordinating the fulfillment of technical support needs for all live productions that serve our audiences, as well as the creation and distribution of related time-based media in the form of audio and video. This is a full-time exempt position with a salary of $40,000 plus benefits.


Audiovisual Operations Support

  • Responsible for responding to audiovisual support needs that arise for our audiences, to include:
    • In-Gallery audiences
    • Virtual audiences
    • Event audiences
  • Responsible for the fulfillment of audiovisual support of Museum-sponsored programs, meetings, and events
  • Responsible for ensuring audiovisual systems are functional and available to audiences by way of quality control steps like morning walkthroughs and systems checks
  • Responsible for maintaining audiovisual inventories, including hardware and software to include: video cameras, webcams, codecs, loanable PA systems, portable displays, projectors, sound mixers, and presentation computers
  • Install and design audiovisual systems used in Museum storytelling products, such as exhibitions and programs
  • Maintain an up-to-date task list

Audiovisual Production Lead

  • Responsible for coordination of audiovisual support needs for in-person, virtual, and pre-recorded programs, to include:
    • Reviewing and responding to support requests
    • Scheduling cross-departmental virtual support team members to needed positions
    • Recommending workflows for program itineraries
    • Attending regular meetings regarding live programs and productions
    • Research and recommend new products and services to meet the needs of audiences and presenters/storytellers
    • Consult with internal and external clients regarding the technical aspects of presentations
    • Coordinate internal and external labor for installation, programming, and design of audiovisual systems used for presentations, such as videoconferencing studios and lecture halls
    • Train others as needed on best practices and operation of audiovisual equipment
  • Responsible for facilitating the creation and distribution of audiovisual media
    • Apply principles of videography and audio production to audiovisual products and services to drive effective audiovisual media design and implementation for live and non-live programs, presentations, and events
    • Audiovisual media editing and delivery
    • Keep Museum YouTube channel up to date by uploading finished assets for online distribution
    • Keep current on audiovisual presentation best practices and trends and maintain the Museum’s guidelines for using digital assets in multimedia presentations
    • Manage digital signage platform used for advertising Museum programming and events, to include training of staff


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Must be highly organized and detail-oriented with excellent communications skills
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously
  • Must be able to think strategically, resourcefully, and innovatively, with a positive attitude
  • Must possess a strong ability to problem-solve complicated electronic systems
  • Must be proficient in Google Apps, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Powerpoint, and Mac and Windows Computers
  • Must have the ability to become an expert in things like Windows Media Player, iTunes, Quicktime, VLC, AMX, Adobe Creative Cloud, and various presentation software
  • Must be proficient in setting up and operating a variety of sound and video equipment
  • Must maintain a high level of technical expertise in live sound reinforcement and signal flow
  • Must have the ability to use digital asset management systems

Education and Experience:

  • High school Diploma or GED is required
  • 2-3 years audiovisual and computer operations experience is required
  • Customer service experience preferred

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be able to work non-traditional hours to include partial weekends and some evenings
  • Must be available to be on-call during non-traditional hours and react to emergencies as needed
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen prior to employment
  • Able to lift heavy loads (up to 50 lbs)
  • Able to walk long distances and stand, crouch, or sit for extended period
