TITLE: Assistant Education Officer
SALARY: $16.00 per hour
The Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation is seeking a qualified individual to assist in the supervision and mentoring of approximately 115 Group Educators who lead school and group education tours and programs at Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, assist in daily operations of the department; development, implementation, management and revision of museum education programs; summer programming and staff training. This position is also responsible for purchasing supplies and following all state and Foundation purchasing regulations. This position requires superlative written and oral communication skills, excellent customer service skills, and experience in museum education, supervision and training.
TO QUALIFY: Knowledge of educational curricula and 21st-century teaching methodology; knowledge of museum education techniques and resources; knowledge of adult training, education and evaluation methods; ability to develop, manage, evaluate and revise educational programs; excellent oral and written communication techniques; experience supervising paid and volunteer staff; ability to work with team-oriented staff; proven ability to plan, organize, manage and complete multiple projects and priorities within prescribed timelines; ability to plan and execute events; computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite; ability to work with a team to manage daily operations and special programs including completing multiple tasks accurately in a fast-paced environment.
Degree strongly preferred, preferably in education, history, or museum studies. Teacher experience at a variety of levels in classroom/museum setting, public contact experience and curriculum development required. Supervisor experience preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - PLEASE NOTE: All full-time and part-time paid staff of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation are required to complete and sign an Application for Employment. All volunteers of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation are required to complete an Application for Volunteerism. These documents require an employee or volunteer to certify that they have never been convicted for any type of violation. This is above and beyond VA Code §22.1-296.1-C which states “that (i) he has not been convicted of a felony or any offense involving the sexual molestation or physical or sexual abuse or rape of a child; and (ii) whether he has been convicted of a crime of moral turpitude.” In addition, the Foundation completes both name and sex registry background checks through Virginia State Police on all paid and core volunteer staff and the Contractor will (i) maintain all employee certifications on file, (ii) require an employee to update the employee's certification if the employee later is convicted of any reportable offense, and (iii) will make these certifications available for inspection upon request.” Foundation staff must also be eligible to work using the E-Verify system through U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
