Adult Programs Coordinator

The Museum of the Shenandoah Valley is seeking an enthusiastic professional for the position of Adult Programs Coordinator/Manager.   Reporting to the Senior Manager of Educational Programming, the Adult Programs Coordinator will oversee and coordinate public programs for adult audiences (ages 16 and older) to fit within the museum’s programming plan. The Adult Programs Coordinator is also involved in the development of interpretive content in gallery and site exhibitions. 

The ideal candidate will be outgoing, collaborative, pleasant, energetic, creative, highly organized, able to manage multiple projects and deadlines, and with demonstrated strengths in the following areas:

  • Developing and implementing programs for diverse audiences including adults of all ages
  • Working independently and as part of a team to realize departmental and institutional goals

  • Negotiating contracts with presenters and contract staff

  • Identifying speakers and presenters for programs appropriate to the museum’s mission

  • Managing program logistics, taking registrations

  • Coordinating promotion with PR/marketing staff, including social media

  • Developing and managing budgets

  • Program evaluation

  • Written and oral communication

  • Public speaking

Candidates with extensive experience may be considered for an Adult Programs Manager title. Minimum requirements for Adult Programs Coordinator are as follows:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (Master’s preferred) in museum studies, history, education, public history, non-profit management or related field
  • One year or more experience developing and implementing programs in a museum or similar non-profit institution

  • Knowledge of Shenandoah Valley history, culture, and decorative arts a plus

  • Proficiency with Windows Office Suite

  • Flexible schedule with considerable evening and weekend responsibilities

  • Outgoing, collaborative, pleasant, energetic, and creative

  • Highly organized, able to manage multiple projects and deadlines
