Position Title – Trails Coordinator (Natural Resource Specialist II)
Salary - $13.00/hour
Job Type - Part-time
The Natural Resource Specialist II oversees the maintenance and development of the park’s trail system, including monitoring for and conducting trail maintenance, development and maintenance of trail amenities and signs, and coordination of the park's volunteer Trailblazer crew. The position also performs the duties of Shift Supervisor, including daily supervision of Visitor Center and Contact Station staff, daily cash management supervision, and sales reconciliation. Shift Supervisors also perform park opening and closing duties, and oversee the daily Visitor Services operations. Other duties include organizing and supervising volunteer work groups and projects, assistance with natural resource management, assistance with special events as needed, and other duties as assigned.
Position requires work on weekends, holidays and evenings. This is a year-round, part-time position, limited to 1476 hours from May through April. The position requires successful completion of a confidential criminal history background check.
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have experience in natural resource management, trail maintenance or other related maintenance fields. Must excel in customer service and cash management skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Management, Parks and Recreation Management or other similar degree is preferred.
Special Requirements for all positions:
Must be willing to work weekends and evenings. There are no health benefits or paid vacation leave associated with the job. Employees are limited to working no more than 1500 hours in 12 months from May 1 to April 30. Position does not include benefits. Employment in all positions within the Virginia State Parks is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check. Employer participates in e-Verify.
