Conference Scholarships

We are no longer accepting 2016 scholarship applications.

The Daniel H. Weiskotten Memorial Scholarship has been created to provide financial assistance to archaeologists, public historians, and students who would benefit from attending the VAM annual conference.
This scholarship is given to one applicant per year, and includes full conference registration as well as hotel costs for two nights.

Applicants for this scholarship should fall into one of the following categories:
  • A current member of VAM
  • A professional archaeologist employed by a museum or historic site in Virginia or the District of Columbia, and currently working with an archaeological dig or with archaeological artifacts
  • A person who is actively engaged in researching and interpreting local history for exhibits or public programs in Virginia or the District of Columbia
  • A student at a Virginia or District of Columbia school preparing to enter the field of archaeology, public history, or museums
The VAM Professionals Scholarships help to fund registration and hotel costs for VAM members and students who would otherwise be unable to attend the annual conference. In order to assist as many qualified applicants as possible, most of these scholarships provide partial funding for conference expenses. All awards are made through a competitive process, and are based primarily on demonstrated financial need.
Applicants for this scholarship should fall into one of the following categories:
  • A current member of VAM
  • A museum studies student
  • A new museum professional (in your first year of your first professional museum job)
Note: If you have received a scholarship from VAM in the past two years, you are not eligible to apply for either scholarship program.
