A new and exciting program for VAM members, VAM Meet Ups are casual programs for members to experience something special that the general public does not have the opportunity to and offer an opportunity to mix and mingle with colleagues. We're happy to have our first event at historic Dumbarton House in Washington, DC.
Take a peek behind the walls and ceilings of a two-hundred year old house. Or learn the ins and outs of replacing your HVAC (heating & air conditioning) system for your museum. VAM has arranged an opportunity to do just that as we join our colleagues at Dumbarton House in Georgetown to tour their historic site while it’s closed to the public for a complete HVAC system upgrade. Executive Director Karen L. Daly and Collections & Facilities Manager Jerry Foust will walk you through the site while explaining their multi-year planning process, fundraising successes (federal grants, city grants, dedicated board members), and project challenges (budget, permitting, staff relocation).
Please note: Please wear work boots or solid closed-toed shoes and dress for the weather as there is no heat currently on site (nor bathrooms—so plan ahead!). Hard hats provided on site.
After the event, join us for a Washington DC happy hour at The Bier Barron in DuPont Circle in conjunction with the Historic House Museum Consortium of Washington, DC. Meet other museum professionals for a casual and fun happy hour.
