ARCHAEOLOGY IN ACTION

Monday, November 9, 2015
Historic Jamestowne
Jamestown, Virginia

Learn about recent discoveries that Historic Jamestowne's archaeological team has unearthed and how that research is transformed into state of the art programming by its educational team using mapping, 3D modeling and printing.

Surrounded by the historic landscape of the first permanent English settlement in North America, we will visit the Archaearium, which pairs the spectacular finds of the Jamestown Rediscovery Project with oversized period paintings to weave a narrative about the first settlers and the struggles they endured. Additionally, we will visit dig sites, the vault, Ed Shed, and New Town, plus see how history is brought to life through hands-on demonstrations of 3D printing.

Speakers:

Bill Warder, National Park Ranger, National Park Service
Mark Summers, Manager of Public and Educational Programs, Jamestown Rediscovery
Danny Schmidt, Senior Staff Archaeologist, Jamestown Rediscovery
Jamie May, Senior Staff Archaeologist, Jamestown Rediscovery
Michael Lavin, Senior Conservator, Jamestown Rediscovery
