UVA Art Museum Reception, September 7th
Teachers from local and regional public and independent schools are invited to a reception at the University of Virginia Art Museum on Sept. 7 at 5 p.m.
Teachers are encouraged to attend the event to discover how they can use museum exhibitions to enhance and supplement classroom activities. The museum's education department will present educators with an overview of museum exhibitions and public programs, as well as detailed information about the artworks selected for the museum's Writer's Eye 2010 program, and a special presentation designed to improve children's creative writing skills.
The Writer's Eye competition challenges writers of all ages to use visual art as inspiration for the creation of original poetry and prose. Contestants submit original writings inspired by selected works from the museum's permanent collection and visiting exhibitions. Each year, area teachers and writing professionals judge the entries, and the winning entries are published in an anthology.
Following the program, a light supper will be served. The teachers' party is free and open to educators across the region. Registration is required by Sept. 1 by calling 434-243-2050 or e-mailing museumoutreach@virginia.edu. The museum is located at 155 Rugby Road, a short walk from the Rotunda, across the street from Madison Bowl.
