Principal Functions:
The Maintenance Supervisor serves as the senior member of the maintenance staff. He/she possesses an outstanding knowledge of all aspects of the buildings, grounds, and mechanical systems park-wide and demonstrates journeyman to advanced skills in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, mechanical, and HVAC as they pertain to Pamplin Historical Park facilities. The incumbent serves as the primary advisor to the Director of Operations on all matters pertaining to facilities and grounds maintenance. He/she directly supervises one full-time staff member and approved hourly staff, volunteers, and interns. He/she may serve as Acting Director of Operations in the absence of the Director of Operations.
Responsibilities:
The Maintenance Supervisor:
• Drafts annual goals for the approval of the Director of Operations
• Prepares fiscally sound annual budget proposals for the department and submits them according to instructions and in a timely manner
• Drafts work schedules for the maintenance department staff for approval of the Director of Operations
• Provides training, and prepares performance appraisals and other personnel actions in a manner consistent with Park-wide standards
• Bears responsibility for managing and tracking all department and capital project budgets in an effective manner consistent with Park standards
• Participates in the recruitment and selection of department staff, including interns, and makes sound, well-considered recommendations to the Director of Operations regarding potential new hires based on thorough reviews and effective interviews
• Serves as an effective member of the Senior Management Team, attending senior staff meetings and planning sessions

The Manager of Retail and Visitor Services oversees all aspects of the Center’s retail operations including proprietary product development, merchandise sourcing, presentation and sales, e-commerce initiatives, inventory control, and supervision and training of visitor services associates. The Manager also supervises all activities to admit, orient, and serve Center visitors. | Want to spend your summer teaching children about nature, animals and conservation in a fun and exciting environment? Maymont is seeking teachers to help lead our Summer Discovery Camps. The camps are broken into 3 age ranges (4-5 pre-k, rising 1-3rd graders, and rising 4-6th graders) with multiple topics for each age group. A typical camp week is Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm or 8am-1pm. There are approximately 12 campers in each camp session, with an intern or volunteer assisting. We educate the students about nature, habitats, and animal through experiments, games, crafts and close-up animal encounters. Teachers are needed June 21st- August 13th. Maymont staff provides the lessons and supplies and teaching support. We will have a mandatory training/orientation on a Saturday in April or May, specific date TBA. | The Science Museum of Virginia seeks a curator to oversee the management and care of its collection at the Virginia Aviation Museum. This contract position is responsible for the inventory, documentation, storage, preservation and display of historic artifacts and will work to determine artifact conservation needs. The curator is responsible for working with staff members in the use of artifacts for education and research and will work with the Collections Subcommittee of the Board of Trustees in regard to collections management policy: accessioning, de-accessioning and loans. The successful candidate will have superb oral and written communication skills, demonstrated use of a collections management software system and a close familiarity with best museum practices.
A Bachelor’s Degree in Museum Studies, Historic Preservation, History or a related field is required. A valid Virginia driver's license is required. Candidate must be able to physically lift and move artifacts. Computer skills in PastPerfect software (or a similar collections management database), web/internet utilization and word processing are required. Position will work approximately 20-25 hrs. per week and pays $15 -19 per hour, commensurate with experience.
