  American Civil War Center At Historic Tredegar
Description: Abraham Lincoln, Jefferson Davis and Frederick Douglas were three of the most powerful men of the 19th-century. What impact did these men have on the lives of millions of men, women, and children? Students will discuss the role these men played in the Civil War and will examine these roles in connection to the Emancipation Proclamation. (4th – 11th)

Program: Phun with Pharaohs (2nd grade)
  Contemporary Art Center of Virginia
Description: Teachers may check out the Phun with Pharaohs trunk for up to 2-3 weeks at Cost: $30 (school representatives provide transportation of trunk to and from their schools). Truck may be signed out for two - three weeks.
Engage your students in ancient Egyptian art and culture through five complete thematic lesson plans. Most lessons can be taught by classroom teachers, though collaboration with art teachers is recommended. The trunk includes a teacher's guide with color-coded lesson plans, 2- and 3-dimensional reproductions, books, CDs and more. Teachers or school representatives provide transportation of the trunk to and from school. The trunk is the ubiquitous rolling black suitcase, seen in airports everywhere, with an additional small bag that straps on.

  Virginia Sports Hall of Fame
Description: Teens will learn how to choose the right food portions for their body type and metabolism and visualize these portions in memorable ways. They will learn how to correctly measure food portions using everyday analogies. Other practical tips on checking labels, ordering small or medium sizes at restaurants, taking home leftovers, sharing meals, and starting with small amounts on dinner plates will be provided. The DVD will be followed with classroom activities and discussion. A post-visit packet is available.

Description: This interactive educational CD contains materials and information on various artifacts that will be on display at the United States National Slavery Museum.Information on the CD includes: unknown or little known slaves, artifacts, rare documents, sheet music dating back to the 1800's, and educational activities available for teachers to use in the classroom. Description: One or Two Hour Laboratory Experience.

AeroZone is a hands-on laboratory experience where students prepare for a cross-country flight that will take them on a tour of various NASA research centers. Students research weather conditions using the Center’s weather station, gather information for visits along the way, and work with a global positioning system and amateur radio sty. They can also design aircraft and conduct wind tunnel research, testing various aero shapes in a real wind tunnel.

There is also an interactive segment on working in microgravity aboard the International Space Station. Students conduct experiments, receive information on careers in space or take a virtual trip to the International Space Station to study spatial orientation and the Station’s Modules.

  Frontier Culture Museum
Description: The Animals, Farm Chores, Family, and Social Customs tour is a guided two-hour tour of the four historic farmsites and forge. This is a special program for K-2nd grades where students will have a chance to meet farm animals, help with simple chores, and learn about family roles on a farm, especially children’s jobs. Students will have a chance to play traditional games, hear about folklore and customs through traditional stories, and to try on traditional children’s costumes.
