Legislative Updates

VAM serves as an advocate for museums, has presented testimony before hearings, and regularly provides information on the Virginia and District of Columbia museum community to elected officials.Through our Legislative Updates, we keep members informed about legislation of interest. Our Advocacy Alerts let members know when it is time to act on an issue – send an email, make a phone call, and get involved!

URGENT! The President released his proposed FY18 budget on Tuesday, May 23, and the news for arts organizations and other cultural programs is not good. In this proposal, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services would all be eliminated. We need to be a unified voice, talking to our legislators about how these programs provide critical, positive support for our communities. We have limited time to get our message across!
Here are some resources that can help you advocate now for these important institutions.
